With only five days to operate, and more than 400 potential patients, the medical team of Hands Across the World conducts hundreds of screenings, providing care on the basis of need alone for only 100 anxious patients.
Pure Medicine: Beyond The Mission is feature-length documentary sharing the stories of the grass roots medical team who volunteer their resources and skills to the poorest nation in Latin America – where medical services are lacking or inadequate, and patient survival rates threatened by poor living conditions.
Each year it’s an emotional journey for the volunteers who arrive in Ecuador to see patients with disfigurements, lack of medical care and supplies.
Although the medical team’s mission is to give back to humanity, something remarkable occurs in the process. This is a rare look into a culture of tradition, and friendships that transcend borders and language barriers.
